Integral to the selection of this spar was the introduction of the mini-stay system. Comprising two stub-shrouds and a mini-forestay attached to a bearing on the mast at gooseneck level, the mini-stay system provides the helm with sophisticated rig control, and enables the rig to be tuned for optimum power according to the conditions. It also allows the boom to be extended beyond the shrouds for fast, Olympic Laser-style downwind sailing.
